Regency Oaks, a senior living community in Clearwater, Florida, experienced a major data breach. On or around Sept. 16, 2024 suspicious activity related to employee email accounts was discovered. An investigation revealed a cybercriminal accessed certain data between Sept. 5 and Sept. 11, 2024.

The data breach affected personally identifiable information (PII) and protected health information (PHI) of Regency Oaks residents and possibly staff. Compromised information includes first and last names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license or state identification card numbers, passport numbers, USCIS or alien registration numbers, United States military identification numbers, account usernames and password information, financial account numbers and access information, payment card access information, Medicaid numbers, Medicare numbers, health insurance policy and group numbers, health record numbers, patient account numbers, provider names and locations, clinical information, medical treatment or procedure information, mental or physical diagnosis information, prescription information and biometric information.

The data breach was disclosed to the Massachusetts and Vermont Attorney Generals' offices beginning on July 12, 2025. Affected individuals include 10 Massachusetts residents. Regency Oaks published a Notification of Data Security Incident on its own website on June 18, 2025.

Regency Oaks is one of multiple Life Care Services (LCS) senior facilities impacted by the cybersecurity incident. Other LCS communities involved in the data breach include Freedom Square of Seminole and Freedom Plaza Senior Living.

Regency Oaks' response

In addition to required state and federal disclosures, Regency Oaks began notifying affected individuals by mail on July 11, 2025. The company is also offering 24 months of free IDX credit monitoring and identity protection services to impacted residents and staff.
