Oak Hill, formally known as The Connecticut Institute for the Blind Inc., disclosed a data breach that stemmed from a security incident occurring in October 2025.

Oak Hill currently serves children and adults with intellectual, developmental, physical and visual disabilities through programs that span residential and group home care, community-based education, employment training, assistive technology, special education, recreation, early intervention and advocacy across communities statewide.

Oak Hill experienced a data security incident on or about Oct. 6, 2025. Upon learning of the incident, Oak Hill commenced an investigation.

The investigation determined that certain files were subject to unauthorized access or acquisition from impacted accounts on the Oak Hill network. With the assistance of these external experts, Oak Hill then worked to review the affected files and determine whether any personal information was involved in the incident.

On May 13, 2026, Oak Hill confirmed that certain files containing personal information had been impacted by the unauthorized access.

The types of information potentially exposed included both personally identifiable information (PII) and protected health information (PHI) including full names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver's license or state ID numbers, medical information and health insurance information.

The organization began mailing notification letters to potentially affected individuals on June 30, 2026, and posted a notice about the incident on its website.

Oak Hill's response to the breach

Individuals whose Social Security numbers may have been involved are encouraged to enroll in complimentary credit monitoring services, with enrollment instructions included in the notification letters.

The line is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Time, excluding major U.S. holidays.
