The breach was reported to the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation on July 17, 2026. The company mailed consumer notices on July 17, 2026.
The company's notification letter to affected individuals did not include specific dates for when the breach occurred or when it was first discovered.
On June 3, 2026, The Gentlemen, a ransomware group, posted on a dark web, claiming it had obtained data belonging to Michigan Surgical Center. In the posting, The Gentlemen stated it intended to publish the stolen information within seven to eight days.
The types of personal information exposed in the breach included social security numbers.
Michigan Surgical Center is providing 24 months of free credit monitoring services, which include single bureau credit monitoring, a single bureau credit report and a single bureau credit score.
Affected individuals can enroll in the free monitoring services by visiting the Cyberscout activation page and entering the unique, case-sensitive code included in their notification letter. Enrollment must be completed within 90 days of the date of the letter.
