
The Lincoln National Life Insurance Co., a life, annuity and accident insurance company that operates under the Lincoln Financial Group brand, disclosed a data breach affecting consumer personal information.
The breach was disclosed to the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation on Sept. 1, 2026. The company began notifying affected consumers on Aug. 27, 2026. The total number of individuals affected across the United States remains undisclosed.
The Lincoln National Life Insurance recently discovered that personal information held by the company was subject to unauthorized access. The letter did not provide specific dates for when the unauthorized access occurred or when the company first detected it, stating only that the discovery was recent.
The types of information exposed in the breach included Social Security numbers and medical records.
The company is offering a complimentary two-year membership in Experian's IdentityWorks credit monitoring service. Enrollment codes included with the notification letters are valid for 60 days from the date of the letter, which was Aug. 27, 2026.
The company also recommended that affected individuals remain vigilant and continue reviewing their account statements and credit reports on a regular basis.
