Lincoln discovered that personal information held by the company was subject to unauthorized access. At this time, the company has not provided specific details about how the unauthorized access occurred, when it took place or how it was discovered.
The types of information exposed in this breach included financial account information and Social Security numbers.
The breach was disclosed to the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation on June 2, 2026. The total number of individuals affected across the United States remains undisclosed at this time. Consumer notification letters were dated May 29, 2026.
Lincoln's notification letter also included an enclosure with detailed guidance on placing fraud alerts, requesting security freezes, obtaining free credit reports and reporting identity theft to the Federal Trade Commission.
The company recommended that affected individuals remain vigilant by regularly reviewing their account statements and credit reports for any signs of unauthorized activity.
