Cure Dental Data Breach Impacts Current and Former Patients: PII Exposed

Cure Dental, a dental practice located in Belton, Texas, disclosed a data breach that affected 878 individuals in the United States. The practice, which describes itself as dedicated to providing excellent dental care in a comfortable setting, discovered the breach on June 25, 2025.

The breach was reported to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on June 23, 2026. Cure Dental also posted a patient notice on its website to inform those who may have been affected by the incident and to outline steps they can take to protect their information.

The practice's cybersecurity platform detected and effectively stopped the movement of malicious activity within the network. The patient record platform was restricted as a result. However, the practice determined through an investigation that certain personal information associated with the practice may have been accessed during the incident.

On Aug. 10, 2025, a ransomware group known as ThreeAM claimed responsibility for the attack. The group posted on the Tor network, claiming to have obtained data from the dental practice.

The types of personally identifiable information potentially exposed in the breach included names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers and driver's license numbers. TThe company stated the incident did not affect any patients' protected health information.

Cure Dental's response to the breach

Cure Dental advised affected individuals to request free credit reports from the three major credit bureaus as a way to help detect potential signs of fraud. The company provided the contact information for each bureau on its notification.

The company encouraged patients to examine their credit reports closely and to look for unfamiliar accounts or other signs of fraud. The notification also recommended that patients continue monitoring their credit reports over time to make sure no one has opened an account using their personal information.
